Miss Argentina & Beetlejuice
Halloween 2016 was a success! We were invited to a Tim Burton themed party, of course we had dress up as a couple. We picked the Beetlejuice movie, but I wanted to do something artistic. Miss Argentina (the receptionist) was in the movie so I HAD TO BE HER! Here are some details on where we bought our stuff and what kind of makeup we used.
I did this trial run a week before the event just to time how long it took. It took me 1 hour exactly to do the makeup and apply the wig. This trial run was so helpful because it helped me figure out what I wanted to do with my makeup.
The day of the event it took me 4 hours to paint my body and face, I did about 2-3 layers, for every section I let it dry painting another section. I used two paints from Paradise, these are bomb!! Great pigmentation, I recommend to use a paint brush and soak the paint with water to get as much paint. I set the paint with makeup, any turquoise colored shimmer eyeshadow works. I love how it looks with shimmer because it adds dimention.
For the wig, I bought it on AMAZON. Best place to buy all of your cosplay wigs! I bought it for $12, I have Amazon Prime so it came in 2 days. I bought the styrofoam head at Sally's Beauty Supply for $1.99 to fold the wig in place so that I can customize it. Thank you to Nicole (my sister in law) she dressed my wig! All it had were bobby pins and hair spray! Oh, and I cut the bangs!
The cape was the hardest thing to do. I couldn’t find any online that liked so I had to do my own. I just drew the shape that I wanted. I used some kind of white cloth material so I can use it as a guide. This was the hardest part: adding wire all over the cape to hold the neckline. I measured all of the sizes, even added some wires through the middle to hold it up straight and HOT GLUED IT. Hot glue was the hero for my entire costume. Once I had the neck part done I cut fabric. The fabric I chose was from Joann's Fabric Store, I bought 2 yards, I believe it was like $8. 2 yards as more than enough!! I hot glued the fabric and the process took me about 2 days.
I had to customize my sash since there weren’t many "Miss Argentina" sashes, I bought the sash on Amazon as well and bought the Iron on letters at Walmart. This took about 45 minutes to do.
Dress: I thrift shopped for all of out clothes, even Brandons. I bought my dress for $3 (with tax) at Thrift Town, and Brandon's coat and pants were from Savers (best place ever). I made it look dirty by applying black and brown eyeshadow on Brandon's clothes randomly to mimic dirt.
Wig I bought on amazon, I cut half of the forehead to make it look more natural. Obviously it still looked fake lol! I recommend for you to cut part of the forehead so you can see more of your forehead. I glued it with Duo eyelash glue!
To make it more realistic, I applied moss that I purchased at Joann's and made it stay with eyelash glue. To make it more realistic, apply green eyeshadow first on areas you want to cover, then apply the moss over to have a layered effect.
Makeup: Was easy, use white paint for Brandon, and purple eyeshadow around his eyes. THE MESSIER THE BETTER!
For me, makeup, I used the paint as a base on my face and set it with both turquoise and lime green shimmer shadows. and used a yellow shimmer eyeshadow for my highlights on my face and neck line. Honestly, for the eyes you can go for any smokey eye, as long as you wear dramatic eyelashes you can pull anything off! for the lips, anything bright red will work. I added a darker lip liner around my lips to make it look more "fake like". With a dark blue eyeshadow I contoured my body. For a little extra, I used fine glitter all over my body. With the moist paint on my body, the glitter stayed.
OH! and if you are wondering if the paint stains... it doesn't! Just be prepared to take a while in the shower to rinse it all off!
